Do you know the feeling when you’ve just finished a hard training? When your blood “boils” in the body, your skin is shining and you feel like you can conquer the whole world?

Now imagine you have this feeling every morning, without exercise. Journalist from Business Insider decided to see if this is even possible.

His task was 30 days every morning to shower with cold water.

If you think that sounds too good to be true, in part you are right. Because, to experience the endorphin euphoria, you will have to try a cold shower or bath a few minutes each day.

Proponents of the “cold therapy” argue that cold showers are a free way to strengthen their immunity, energy and productivity.

If improve at least one of these things and imagine even all three, you will definitely enrich and increase overall satisfaction in life.

But is it really worth to replace pleasing showering with warm or lukewarm water with a 2-minute ice torture?

Business Insider reporter decided he can do it this way, so he bathed in ice cold water every morning for 30 days. Here is his experience:

Days 1-10 – Definitely the worst!

To continue the analogy with exercise, the beginning of each routine is the hardest part.

Besides, this is worse than exercise, because there at least most exercises are not immediately start so frightening.

With exercise you start with something easier, while the only way to easily get started with icy shower is to count off five to one, close your eyes and boldly set a foot forward.

“It’s hard to describe the experience of the initial 10 seconds of the first ice shower, because all my senses were overloaded.

In the brain stop all activity and in my head I had only one thought: “SO COLD. SO, SO COLD “– wrote Drew Housman, the man who decided on this 30-day challenge and added –

The next 20 seconds was worse because I was aware of what actually happens. I’m mad. What am I doing? “

But after 30 seconds the body just started to quiet down gradually. He could think rationally again and had no more desire to get out of the shower at all costs. But still felt miserable and shivering from the cold.

Exposure to cold can potentially help to raise the level of endorphins in the construction of the actual fat, weight loss, or the white fat, fight depression and even to reduce the size of the tumor.

Days 11 – 20 – The situation is slowly improving

Somewhere after two weeks awakening and freezing in the icy water, something very strange happened. Man even began to enjoy it.

And he started noticing physiological benefits.

He was better prepared to face the daily challenges. “Finally, what could be so terrible when I’ve already gone through something so awful and so early in the morning?”

Days 21 to 30. – When the cold shower becomes a habit

“In the last phase of its 30-day challenge, no longer I had to motivate with music or psychological tricks every morning to go under a cold shower. It just went and did it, knowing that the benefits are greater than the initial discomfort. “

Then he noticed parallels between what he did in the shower and save on money.

“Once the savings will become a habit, then the creation of the domestic calculation and stopping unnecessary austerity, they initially painful steps suddenly become lighter rather strenuous and painful tasks become plain habit.”

Then began experimenting with showering at different times of the day.

He discovered that after midday are also useful as morning showers. Ice cold shower in two afternoons is like a cup of coffee without sleep disorders and additional costs.

You feel sleepy after lunch? Instead of going after another coffee, try to jump into a cold shower for a minute.

You have obligations late at night, but you’re tired after a long and hard day? Try the cold shower and notice how your attention and concentration improved.

Conclusion

It seems that this 30-day challenge match for anyone that barely wakes up in the morning.

Maybe you’ll even save some money that otherwise you spend on coffee because it will take less caffeine once you start the morning with a wave of endorphins.
