Natural Solutions For Removing Earwax

Earwax can be anywhere from irritating to downright painful, depending on how much buildup there is. For some people, it seems like they can never get rid of all the wax in their ears. Since clearing your ears with cotton swabs can be extremely dangerous for your ear canals, try some of these natural and safe ways to get the wax out of your ears.

Natural Solutions to Removing Earwax

Vinegar and Rubbing Alcohol Solution

For an easy solution to clean out ears, mix together a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and a tablespoon of white vinegar in a small dish. Use an eye or ear dropper to get a few drops in your ears. The solution should soften the wax, which will in turn lessen irritation caused from the blockage.

Warm Water

This is a fairly common method used to clear ears of wax and other bacteria. Lie on your side and use a syringe to pour water into your ear. Leave the water in your ear for a few seconds, than drain it. You can repeat this twice daily to clean out the ears.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is another great trick to use that softens earwax. When earwax is soft, predictably it’s much easier to get out of the ear. Use a dropper to put two to three drops of olive oil into the ear before you go to bed. If the blockage in your ears is particularly bad, you can repeat this process several times a week.

Baby Oil

Just like olive oil, baby oil is a perfect way to soften up that hard ball of wax that’s blocking your ear. Put two to three drops of the oil in your ear. Cover the ear with a cotton ball to prevent it from leaking, and leave the oil in the ear for a few minutes so the wax absorbs the oil. If you don’t have baby oil, glycerin will also do the trick.

Saline Solution

To make this saline solution, dissolve a teaspoon of salt in half a cup of warm water. Use a dropper or a cotton ball to drop a few drops of solution into the ear while lying on your side. Leave the solution in your ear for two minutes. Turn to the other side to carefully drain the solution. Repeat this process in the other ear. Do this once a day.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Another good way to break up the earwax is with a solution of equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide must be below 3% to ensure that it doesn’t hurt the surrounding skin, but the acidity of the solution is great for dissolving wax.

Homeopathic Ear Wax Removal

This isn’t a solution to make at home, but sometimes you can find organic remedies from the drug store. Homeopathic eardrops are available in most local drug stores, and they are great for helping the more chronic cases of ear blockage, which can result in some serious pain and irritation. These drops work to both soften the wax that’s lodged in your ear, and relive the irritated skin surrounding it.
